How To Attemper The Tibetan Medicine Material (B)
Flying: To meet the special needs of practice, some of the materia medica should be prepared as very fine powder; moreover, some materia medica, when prepared as powder, may be dispersed, raised, and lost in the air.
This can be prevented by the flying method. Cinnabar, coal and corundum can be prepared by this method. There are two kinds of flying.

Water flying: Put the material in a mortar. Add some water and then grind to very flue powder suspended in the water. Pour the suspension into a container. The residue should be ground again with water and the process repeated several times. Mix all the suspensions. Let it stand and precipitate. Pour off the fluid and dry the precipitation and grind to fine powder.

Dry flying: Put the material into a ball mill and grind to fine powder without adding water.
Frying: Put the herbs in an iron pot and stir-fry to an adequate condition.

Fried with sand: Put some f'me sand in an iron pot, and heat with a strong fire. When the heat becomes evenly distributed in the stirred sand, added the herb and fry again until it becomes crispy, such as Semen Canavalia.

Calcination: Put the Tibetan material onto an anthracite fire, and burn until the desired condition is achieved. Indirect calcination: Put the material into on iron pot, and then cover it with another small iron pot facing downward; seal
the edges with salted mud and put the pot on the fire, first slow and then strong, until the desired condition is achieved. This can be done by putting a piece of white paper or a few grains of rice on the navel of the small pot; when the paper
or rice become yellow, it is done. Wild pig dung can be prepared in this way.
