Herb Therapy Treatment Diarrhea (A)
In traditional Chinese medicine, the condition is divided into five types, each of which is treated with different herbs.
For Chang Pi type. Chang Pi is an acute intestinal infection commonly seen in summer and autumn, and characterized by watery diarrhea, cramp of the gastrocnemius muscles of the leg due to excessive loss of water from severe vomiting and diarrhea, thirst, dark urine and profuse sweating, mucoid glossy coating of the tongue. The formula for this type is Qin Sao Wei Lin Tang Jia Jian.
Constituents:
Skullcap 10g
Root of herbaceous peony 30g
Chinese atractylodes 15g
Bark of official magnolia 10g
Dried old orange peel 12g
Pinellia 10g
Tuckahoe 30g
Umbellate pore 12g
Oriental water plantain 12g
Asiatic plantain 30g
Wrinkled leaven 12g
Leaf of purple perilla 12g

Decoction and dosage: All the above herbs make a dose and six to ten doses are prescribed with one dose daily. Each dose is simmered twice and then the broth of each mixed, half of the mixed broth each time, twice a day.

For Heat type. Heat type diarrhea is due to the invasion of a pathogenic heat factor into the large intestine. The chief symptoms are diarrhea with very foul mucoid stools, borborygmus, abdominal pains, burning sensation of the anus, scanty
dark urine, thirst, tenesmus, yellow coating of the tongue, rapid pulse. The treatment is to dissipate heat with Ge Gen Qin Lian Tang Jia Jian.
Constituents:
Root of kudzuvine 15g
Skullcap 10g
Chinese goldthread 10g
Chinese pulsatilla 20g
Corktree 12g
Ash bark 12g
Purslane 30g
Fruit of hawthorn 30g
Betal nut 15g
Decoction and dosage is the same.

For food type.

Food type diarrhea is caused by improper or contaminateddiets, clinically it is manifested as belching, regurgitation of acid, poor appetite, distress of the chest and epigastrium, abdominal pain followed and relieved by diarrhea, thick coating of the tongue, etc. The treatment is intended to relieve food accumulation with Bao He Wan Jia Jian. Constituents:
Fruit of hawthorn 30g
Medicated leaven 30g
Malt 30g
Weeping forsythia 15g
Chinese radish seed 18g
Dried old orange peel 12g
Pinellia 12g
Wrinkled leaven 12g
Membrane of chicken gizzard 10g
Rhubarb 6g
Decoction and dosage is the same.
