All of these method may be effective to control symptoms in short-term, but recurrent rate is high. The course of treatment with these medicines is longer, and the side effect is marked. Some reports demonstrated that the effect was not satisfactory.
Enema with herb decoction. 75 to 100ml concentrated decoction of medicinal herbs is given to the patient once daily. A course includes 30 times and between courses there is an interval of 7 days.
For patients with nonspecific ulcerative colitis who have bloody pus, the following formula is prescribed.

Limonium bicolour 30g
Field thistle 30g
Root of garden burnet (baked) 30g
Hyacinth bletilla (tuber) 15g
Rodgersia aesculifolia bataI 15g
Copperleaf 30g
Decoction and dosage: All the above herbs make a dose and six to ten doses are prescribed with one dose daily. For patients with mucus stool, the following Herbs formula is prescribed.

Climbing groundsel 30g
Licorice root 15g
Cortree (bark) 12g
Oldenlandia diffusa (wild.) Roxb 30g
