Nasal Medication Of The Tibetan medicine
Like the nasal drip in modern biomedicine, nasal medication in Tibetan medicine is a kind of therapy administered through the nasal cavity. However, nasal medication is not a therapy applied only for diseases of the nose. Tibetan medicine claims that the nose is the door of the brain. Hence, in addition to treatment for nasal disease, it is effective for many diseases above the neck, which differs from modern biomedicine.

This breaks down into resolving and removing nasal medication. The former is applied to many diseases occurring above the clavicle and in the head. However, it is contra-indicated in epidemics, trauma, intoxication and the eating
of high fat meals.

The medicines applied include (1) Flos Carthami, melted butter and white sugar, which is indicated for a wind syndrome of the head, diseases of the blood level and paroxysmal headache; (2) Radix Glycyrrhiza, Fructus Phyllanthi, white

Procedure: let the patient lie fiat with a cushion below the shoulder region so that the head is extended backward with the nostrils facing upward. Dripping is administered in the early morning or evening. Five drops are dripped each !
time. Let the patient lie for a while and then get off the bed. Avoid smoke or wind blowing, or the drug will be expelled after sneezing.

Removing nasal medication is indicated in common cold, febrile disease and diphtheria, reddened eyes, facial yellow fluid disorders and head lacerations. Contra-indications include blurred vision, dizziness and inward curling of the eyelashes.

Medicines include Rhizoma Curcuma, Sallucidum, Mylabris cichorii, Fructus Cassia nodosa, Radix Glycyrrhiza, Radix Gypsophila and Resina Boswellia carterii; grind all ingredients into powder and mix with goat's milk, keeping it in a slender bamboo pipe for use.

Procedure: Rub the patient's head with oil and then make a hot compress for the head with cooked highland barley. Let the patient blow his or her nose. Drip the medicine as above slowly for seven drips, followed after an interval by a gargle with clean warm water. Don't inhale the medicine into the larynx. In case epistaxis occurs, a cold compress over the forehead can be given, orhaemostatic medicine can be administered if needed.
