Yong is an acute pyogenic infection of skin and subcutaneous tissues with a local redness, swelling, hotness and pain in an area 6-10 cm in diameter, and the onset and development of the disease is very prompt. The skin lesion may quickly suppurate, rupture and heal. Yong can be divided into 3 stages: In the early stage, the patient may suffer from a bulging induration of the skin with local redness, swelling, hotness and severe pain, as well as chills, fever, headache, poor appetite, spread of lesion and appearance of multiple alveolate pustules; at the rupture stage of Yong, the patient may suffer from rupture of skin lesion, discharge of sticky yellow pus and central depressed necrosis, with slough as well as high fever, headache, thirst, passage of hard stool and discharge of dark urine; and at healing stage of Yong, the patient may manifest detachment of slough, formation of fresh granulation tissue and healing of wound.

Abscess underneath the skin, acute lymphadenitis and cellulitis in Western medicine are also included in this disease.

Recipe 1: One fresh bitter gourd.
Administration: The bitter gourd is pounded to paste, and applied over the skin lesion.
Indication: The bitter gourd can clear summer heat and eliminate poison to treat Yong at the early stage.

Recipe 2: Eight to 10 ginkgoes, Yiyiren (Job's tears) 60 g and a small amount of crystal sugar.
Administration: The ginkgoes and Yiyiren are boiled and mixed with sugar for oral intake.
Indication: This recipe can enrich Qi, clear heat and promote drainage of pus to treat Yong at the suppurative stage.

Recipe 3: Fresh Pugongying (dandelion), white stem of overgrown green onion and honey of the same amount.
Administration: The first 2 herbs are pounded and mixed with honey to prepare a paste for external application to the lesion, once a day for 3-4 days.
Indication: The paste is used at the rupture stage of Yong.

Recipe 4: Fourteen eggplants and raw Heshouwu (fleece flower root) 100 g.
Administration: A decoction of the above herbs is drunk (or taken with a glass of yellow wine) for 2-3 days.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat Yong at the rupture and healing stage.
