Main symptoms and signs: Stabbing pain with definite site worsened by pressing and ingestion, or hematemesis, melena, dark purplish tongue, wiry and unsmooth pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Removing blood stasis, activating collaterals, regulating qi and normalizing the gastric function.

Prescriptions and drugs: The prescription used is Shixiao Powder in combination with Danshen Decoction. Their ingredients are i0 g of Wulingzhi (Faeces Trogopterorum), 6 g of Puhuang (Pollen Typhae) (to be wrapped), 10 g of Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizea), 3 g of Sharen (Fructus Amomi) (to be decocted later), 10 g of Yanhusuo (Rhizoma Corydalis), 5 g of Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae), 10 g of Jingtiansanqi (Herba Sedi Aizoonis), 6 g of Wuyao (Radix Linderae) and 10 g of Wuzeigu (Os Sepiella seu Sepiae).

Modification For the patients with intractable bleeding, 3 g of Sanqifen (powder of Radix Notoginseng) (taken separately) and 8 g of Baiji (Rhizoma Bletillae) are added; for the patients with chronic loss of blood, pale lips and tongue, 8 g of Renshen (Radix Ginseng), 10 g of Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and 12 g of Huangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) are included.
