Do Not Ignore The Thyroidism And Goiter
Goiter of the neck can be divided into 3 types: Patients of goiter due to stagnation of liver Qi may suffer from enlarged thyroid gland, mental depression, pain in the flank, abdominal distension and pain in and distension of the breasts before menstruation; patients of goiter due to stagnation of Qi and accumulation of phlegm may suffer from enlarged soft thyroid gland without pain but increasd in size after emotional disturbance, chest distress and difficulty in swallowing; and patients of goiter due to stagnation of Qi and blood may suffer from enlargement of the thyroid gland over a long time with engorged veins, difficulty in breathing and hoarseness of voice.
Goiter is a symptom of simple goiter and hyperthyroidism in Western medicine.

Recipe 1: White gourd 60 g, Yiyiren (Job's tears) 30 g, Chuanbeimu (Sichuan fritillary bulbus) 15 g, Danshen (red root sage) 15 g, Kumbu (kelp) 15 g and a small amount of brown sugar.
Administration: A decoction of Chuanbeimu and Danshen is used to make rice gruel with other ingredients for oral intake once a day for 15-20 days.
Indication: This gruel is used to treat goiter with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea due to accumulation of phlegm and dampness, and stagnation of Qi.

Recipe 2: Xiangyuanpi (citron peel) 9 g, kelp 120 g and vinegar 1000 g.
Administration: The ftrst 2 herbs are soaked in vinegar for 7 days, and 6-9 g of the kelp is taken by mouth once a day for 10-15 days.
Indication: Kelp soaked in vinegar can adjust Qi, release stagnation and resolve goiter due to stagnation of liver Qi.

Recipe 3: Dried laver 20 g and an adequate amount of sesame oil and salt.
Administration: The laver is washed clean to prepare a cold dish with sesame oil and salt for oral intake with meals, twice a day.
Indication: The laver is used to treat goiter due to stagnation of Qi and accumulation of phlegm. It is prohibited for patients with deficiency and coldness of the spleen and stomach, because the laver has a sweet and salty taste and a cold nature.
