But the 35-year-old, of Pontlliw, who started trying for a baby in 2003, says she has acupuncture to thank for her bundle of joy.
After undergoing a series of tests at Swansea's Singleton Hospital, medical experts could find little wrong.
But after a course of the Chinese therapy her son Ifan arrived into the world on March 30, weighing 8lb.
Mrs Lewis, of Bryntirion Road, said: "It's wonderful - Ifan is fabulous.
It was 10 months ago that Mrs Lewis, along with her 33-year-old student teacher husband, Fabio, started to undergo sessions of Chinese acupuncture.
It was after they heard it could improve the chances of women who have fertility treatment.
Fertility experts at Singleton Hospital were left struggling to understand why the teacher could not become a mum.
