Sangye Folium Mori
The source is from the leaf of Morus alba L., family Moraceae. The producing areas are in all parts of China. The medicinal material is collected after frost, dried in the sun and the raw or the one stir-baked with honey can be used for medication.
Medicinal Properties Sweet and bitter in flavor, cold in nature and attributive to the lung and liver meridians.
Actions Expel wind and heat, clear away lung-heat and moisturize dryness, and clear away liver-fire to treat eye disease.
Application
1. For the wind-heat syndrome due to exogenous attack manifested as headache, cough, and sore throat, it is usually combined with Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi), Bohe (Herba Menthae), etc., such as Sang Ju Yin (Decoction).
2. For the damage to the lung due to dryness and heat marked by dry cough with little sputum and dry throat, it can be combined with Xingren ( Semen Armeniacae Amarum ) , Beimu ( Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae), Shasben (Radix Adenophorae), and Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis), etc., such as Qingzao Jiufei Tang (Decoction).
3. It is indicated for conjunctivitis and dizziness due to liver-heat, etc.. It can be combined with Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi ), Juemingzi ( Semen Cassiae ), and Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis), etc., to treat conjunctivitis due to liver-heat. For hyperactivity of liver-yang manifested as headache and dizziness, often combined with Juhua ( Flos Chrysanthemi ), Shijueming ( Concha Haliotidis ) , and Baishaoyao ( Radix Paeoniae Alba ), etc..
In addition, it can be used for bleeding due to blood-heat manifested as hematemesis and epistaxis.
Usage and Dosage 5 -10 g is used in decoction for oral use; or it is added to pill or powder, and can be stir-baked with honey, which is often used for cough due to lung-dryness.
