The Main Content of the Visceral Manifestation Theory
The human body is an organic whole with close relationships existing between the zang-viscera and the fu-viscera, and between the fu-viscera and the physiology and pathology of the body. An inseparable connection exists between the viscera and the skin, muscles, blood vessels, tendons and bones, as well as the nose, mouth, tongue, eyes, ears, external genitalia and anus. In addition, the essence, qi, blood and body fluids make up the basic substances of the human body. Their formation, circulation and distribution occur properly through the functional activities of various viscera which in turn are dependent on the essence, qi, blood, and body fluids. These fluids derive the material basis of the body. All knowledge regarding the organs is embodied within the two parts of the visceral manifestation theory. Part one discusses the physiological functions and pathological changes of the five zang-viscera, six fu-viscera, the extraordinary organs and their interrelationships. Part two introduces the physiological functions of the essence, qi, blood and body fluids, spirit and their interrelationships.
