History of Present Illness: Twenty-four days ago, the patient got an artificial abortion because of her early pregnancy. Since then there had been a continuous colporrhagia, which was fresh red in colour and occurring continuously. There was no blood clot in it. The used daily sanitary tissues were more than 1 and a half bags. She had been to the department of gynaecology and obstetrics of one hospital for treatment, it was diagnosed as "Uterine Bleeding After Artificial Abortion," she was treated by taking the drugs named as "AnKunChongJi, Dicynone" and "Decoction for Postpartum Troubles. "After 24 days' treatment, the colporrhagia occurred continuously yet. Then she came here for treatment on May 9, 1998. After the illness came on, her appetite, urination and defecation were all normal, but she got lassitude, fatigue and shortness of breath. There was not other complaint.

Menstrual and Obstetrical Histories:14¡Á[(6-7)¡Â28]¡Á1998-4-9;1-0-1-1. Physical Examination: The patient was conscious with a pale lusterless complexion. The pulse was deep and thready, the tongue was pale with a thin layer of white fur. The chest and the abdomen were all normal. Result of gynecological examination showed the uterus and the both sides of adnexa were all normal, the vagina was unobstructed and there was some fresh red blood in it. There was not other abnormal sign.

Examination Ultrasonogram B: It showed the uterus and both sides of adnexa were all normal.

Diagnosis: Uterine Bleeding After Artificial Abortion.

Differentiation: This disease, in TCM, belongs to the category of "Lou-syndrome" (metrostaxis). After the artificial abortion, the meridian of the uterus was injured and qi and blood were all extra consumed, then there appeared deficiency of qi and blood. The deficient qi couldn't normally control the blood's flowing And couldn' t effectively astringe the uterus, then the injured meridian of the uterus couldn't be astringed firmly. So that the patient got the continuous colporrhagia. According to such pathogenesis, we can draw a conclusion that this illness was actually caused by deficiency of qi and blood, it wasn't caused by blood stasis at all. The original gynecologist who the patient had asked didn't correctly recongnize the pathogenesis and incorrectly used an unfit decoction the Decoction for Postpartum Troubles, not only the illness couldn't be cured, but also the illness was aggravated by the incorrect treatment. For the Decoction for Postpartum Troubles is only responsible for the postpartum blood stasis, not for the deficiency of qi and blood. Incorrect using the decoction caused the deficient qi and blood became more and more deficient. It was just as if what a Chinese idiom said: a slight discrepancy leads to a gigantic error.

All the above drugs were to be decocted in water for oral taking. 5 doses were prescribed. She was told to stop the original treatment and avoid eating fat and greasy food during the treatment.

Effect Observation: After taking the decoction, the colporrhagia disappeared. Physical examination showed the pulse was thready and soggy yet, the tongue was light red with a thin layer of white fur.
